CULTURE EVENING, PERAUGYMNASIUM, VILLACH, AUSTRIASign In or Register to add photos
The culture evening on the- which is the 3rd day of the symposium was a revelation for me. It was a night when I witnessed how two different set of worlds represented by students of two different countries presented themselves. The differences were too striking from the very start; the vibrant colors of the Indians and the sraightforwardness of black and white, the bewildering movements of dances and the soft and subdued melodies sang by those tender and young hearts, the music of Rajasthan which could be compared with the sound of the dessert storm and those soft plucking of strings and the feathery tones of the piano from those nimble-footed fingers wandering from one key to the next. Yes, subdued music like the sound of the wind making itself felt on almost autumnal sunset.
Two different cultures complementing each other as the evening unfolded. Each one presenting what it could and what it wanted without outdoing each other. Two different cultures on their own, in the same room, same time and
complementing each other without trying to be like the other but liked each other instead. Seeing these students learning from each other which led to acceptance and friendship among these young people separated by thousand of miles,
made Edmund and me happy and perhaps proud of ourselves that we with the help of other people and institutions made it happen.
The evening ended with the Indians and Austrians; students, teachers, parents and guests alike, dancing and laughing. It was a wonderful evening.
