Mr Claude Sinner is a biophysicist at the Steinbuch Centre for Computing in Karlsruhe, Germany. He is a PhD Student at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, His areas of specialization are Biophysics, protein folding, mathematical biology. He tries to establish new methods and ways of thinking in biology. For this symposium, he gave an introduction about his project label-butterflies.com, a citizen science project that focuses on transcribing data labels from butterflies. While users try to unlock 30 different butterfly pictures in their profiles, they generate valuable data that can be used for scientific research. Further fun projects from the zooniverse network, useful for the biological science class, were presented. The talk aimed to instigate new directions in the regular biology curriculum towards a more IT based teaching to better prepare kids for the needs of the future. Mr Sinner's lecture proceeded without any technical problems. The symposium participants were awed by his passion for butterflies and were inspired to learn that his passion started during his childhood. His vast knowledge about butterflies also greatly impressed us. He delivered his lecture with precision and clarity that could be expected from a scientist like him. Questions from the teachers and students were asked and were answered accordingly. Plant a Butterfly Project is glad to announce that Mr Sinner is willing to answer questions about butterflies in the future. Looking for specific answers about butterfly could be difficullt at times. We therefore welcome his interest in helping us in this matter.
